The Stories of Home
Houstory® is the publisher of the original Home History Book™ archival journal and creator of The Heirloom Registry™.
Inspired by the idea that an heirloom without a story is just more stuff, The Heirloom Registry is a new and innovative online service that helps you protect and share those stories, providing a simple, lasting, accessible and inexpensive way to make sure the stories and records of the things you care about are preserved and easily found by future generations. By permanently affixing a unique registry number to your heirloom or other item, you can record its story on The Heirloom Registry Web site today and allow others who find and enter that same number -- whether it's tomorrow, or 100 years from tomorrow -- to find and treasure its story as well.
A portion of the cost of each registration number goes into a dedicated fund to help ensure the ongoing viability of The Heirloom Registry.
The Home History Book archival journal is an heirloom-quality book that, unlike a family's personal scrapbook or photo album, is meant to stay with a house as a permanent record of its past history and present stories.
Believing that every house has a story, Houstory's Home History Book series is designed to serve two important functions: First, it provides homeowners who wish to research the history of their home an attractive and lasting medium to record and share their findings with others. Second, it helps them document and record their own stories -- their living history. This includes information about both the home's physical structure and changes that may occur over the years and -- perhaps more importantly -- about their own family's time in the home. It is this personal history -- the stories of a family's everyday life and/or significant events that occur while living in the home -- that give a home its unique character and feel.
Founded in 2007 with the creation of the Home History Book by brothers Mike and Dan Hiestand -- Houstory has established itself as the preeminent provider of quality home history products and a leader in encouraging home genealogy around the world. The Heirloom Registry was launched in 2011. The The company's companion Web sites -- homehistorybook.com and heirloomregistry.com -- include articles, guides and multimedia produced by professional home genealogists, document archivists and public records experts. Future plans also include message boards/discussion groups where the houstorian community can more informally share information and hints about home research, ask questions and display interesting photos and stories they may have discovered while researching their home's history.
Houstory is committed to building a company that is not only profitable, but responsible, sustainable and community-minded. The company lives by The Golden Rule and, in doing so, hopes to instill fierce customer and employee loyalty. A successful day ends with the company feeling proud of the work it does, its place in both the local and global communities and the positive difference it is constantly striving to make in the world.
